Think of luxury, and you think of Bentley. It produces British sporting grand tourers that are not only beautiful but also exhilarating to drive. In the 1920s, Bentley dominated the LeMans 24 Hour race, winning five times in an eight-year period. This created a reputation for fast, powerful and enduring cars with dominating performance that still exists. Today, it is owned by Volkswagen and has a £500 million investment plan. Bentley is embarking on an ambitious and exciting new car development programme, focused on designing and building Bentleys that are true to the marque.

“The effect this has on improved business processes and improved business decisions is immeasurable. The effect this has had on time, cost and efficiency savings within our team is worth the license cost many times over,

Background

Bentley uses SAP® to support their business. There is a permanent need to add and change data held in SAP. In car assembly there are many different components, and changes to an assembly could require changes in excess of 6,000 SAP records. Data was uploaded either manually or through ABAP scripts. The ability for SAP to react quickly to changes in the business was impaired by the complexities and time needed to change SAP data. There was also a real financial loss in terms of time and resource expenditure required to get the job done.

Simple data changes or uploads now take a few minutes rather than a few hours. Complex changes take a few minutes as opposed to a few days,

Why Syniti was Selected

Time Saved

  • With the Syniti Data Workbench, the time taken to work with SAP
data is significantly reduced, freeing up technical resources to
    work on other core activities.
  • “Simple data changes or uploads now take a few minutes rather than a few hours. Complex changes take a few minutes as opposed to a few days,” remarked Saul.
  • Bentley required a toolset that would allow them to manipulate their SAP data quickly, securely and in a controlled manner. They needed a solution that would give them the flexibility to work freely with a variety of transactions and that would reduce the technical skills needed to work with their data.

Improved Decision Making

  • With Syniti’s Data Workbench solution, the data in SAP is up-to- date and accurate. Decisions made on data held within SAP are made with complete information.
  • “The effect this has on improved business processes and improved business decisions is immeasurable. The effect this has had on time, cost and efficiency savings within our team is worth the license cost many times over,” says Saul.

Results

Bentley required a toolset that would allow them to manipulate their SAP data quickly, securely and in a controlled manner. They needed a solution that would give them the flexibility to work freely with a variety of transactions and that would reduce the technical skills needed to work with their data.

By deploying Syniti’s Data Workbench solution, Bentley has enabled both IT staff members and end-users alike to perform required data updates to their SAP system in a timely and cost efficient manner. Bentley uses Syniti in many different business areas for a number of different SAP transactions. Syniti has allowed Bentley to apply changes to SAP component assemblies in a fraction of the time that it used to take, saving them a considerable amount of money.

“I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t use Syniti. Why waste time and money to employ expensive resources to work with your data when there’s a toolset available that can do it so quickly and easily?” says Tim Saul from Bentley. “We had previously looked at using CATT to work with our data but it wasn’t user friendly enough to give significant savings. It still required an large amount of time comparable to writing an ABAP
