Senior Quality Engineer - Remote - US - Austin, TX

Position Summary

BackOffice Associates believes that Quality is part of the full software development lifecycle. As a member of the team, the Sr. Quality Engineer will be responsible for key parts of the software development process. Quality Engineers will work with Development Leads to asses new features and provide testing expertise to all development efforts. He/She will review code changes and determine if adequate test coverage exist between new and existing automated tests. The Sr. Quality Engineer is also responsible for defining and executing additional testing for feature development which may include security, performance, integration and manual testing. The person in this position will work with all parties to create and maintain automated tests as part of the Continuous Integration and Continuous Development processes. The position will work with the whole Q.E. & A. team to enhance the overall skill set of the team by contributing to testing code base.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create, Update, Improve automated testing as part of the development process to ensure the quality of every software release
  • Collaborate with developers to create tests, identify bugs, issues, and defects
  • Communicate daily information about testing including results, progress, bugs, issues, and successes
  • Experience in agile software process. Someone who believes in agile but is not beholden to a particular methodology
  • Believes in continuous delivery and full integration of the lifecycle: Dev, Ops, Quality
  • A highly distributed team that embraces a “remote-first” model even if you are at an office

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field or commensurate technical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in quality engineering, software development or related technical field
  • Experience with automated testing tools, CI/CD tools and web based applications
  • Experience owning, operating, and maintaining a CI/CD system (Jenkins, Team City, CircleCI, VSTS etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of BDD (Behavioral Driven Development) test frameworks (Cucumber, TestLeft, SpecFlow etc.)
  • Experience leveraging/managing a test environment in the cloud (AWS, Azure etc.)
  • Knowledge of testing desktop or web-based applications
  • Experience implementing performance testing from the ground up, a plus
  • Proficient in handling technical development concepts, latest software tools and technologies, strong database concepts and designing techniques
  • Strong programing with the ability to be able to customize and create tests written in Ruby defined in Cucumber (Behaviour-Driven Development) and driven by Capybara through Selenium
  • Understanding of different programming languages and the ability to solve problems in coding, testing and deployment
  • Ability to understand complex processes and associated interactions
  • Highly organized and process driven
  • Ability to work as part of a highly distributed team- great communication skills via Slack and Google Hangouts is a must
